Eyelid Lift
Overview
The eyes can be the most striking facial feature conveying emotion and feeling. They are also the facial feature that everyone that you come in contact with looks at. Unfortunately, age, sun exposure and hereditary factors all contribute to wrinkles, deep lines and puffiness around the eyes which can cause us to look tired and prematurely aged. An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is designed to restore a more youthful appearance to your eyes. It may involve the upper lids, the lower lids, or both, and is commonly performed in conjunction with other facial surgeries such as a browlift and/ or facelift.
The Surgery
Eyelid lift surgery is performed on an outpatient basis usually under light sedation "twilight anesthesia" in our surgical facility. For the upper eyelids, an incision is made in the crease of the upper eyelid and excess skin and fatty tissue is carefully removed. For the lower eyelids, an incision is made on the inside of the eyelid (transconjunctivalblepharoplasty) or under the eyelash line to remove excess skin and fatty tissue. Occasionally, an eyelid tightening procedure (canthoplasty/canthopexy) may be necessary for severe laxity of the lower eyelid.
Recovery: What to Expect
Postoperative pain is very minimal and easily controlled with pain medication. The area surrounding the eyes is usually swollen and bruised for 7 - 10 days. You may expect to resume normal activity and wear makeup usually by one week, and start enjoying your new look within approximately 10-14 days.
