Breast Revision Surgery

Breast Revisions

Overview:

Breast augmentation, Breast Reductions, and Breast lifts are all common procedures that have been performed for decades. As new technology and techniques are developed the quality of the results from these procedures continues to steadily improve. Many patients that have had a previous breast procedure may find that over time the quality of the result from their previous procedure can become unsatisfactory. Over time the aging process can cause breast tissue to sag or older generation implants can develop scaring around them causing them to become firm and causing a change in the shape or position of the implant. Leaking or deflation of these older generation implants can also occur over time requiring removal and/or replacement. Dr. Tjelmeland has extensive experience in breast revision surgery and can assess your specific situation to determine what procedures would best benefit you.

The Procedure:

Typically breast revision surgery addresses the removal of the old implants along with the surrounding scar tissue, adjusting the implant pocket to the proper position and addressing any breast sagging with a breast lift. Each breast revision surgery is individualized to the specific problems that each patient has and not all of these procedures are required in all patients. In most cases revision surgery is more complex and lengthy than the original procedure. This is especially true in breast augmentation patients that have developed problems.

Recovery:

In most cases despite a more complex surgery, the recovery is usually similar to a breast augmentation in that most patients are back to work within 5 - 10 days. Depending on the specific situation, a special support bra may be worn for the first few days to weeks after surgery.
