Body Contouring

After Weight Loss Surgery

Bariatric surgery and gastric bypass surgery are becoming popular options to assist in losing weight. In addition, society has become more body conscious and the population has moved increasingly towards diet and exercise. No matter what the method used, a large amount of weight loss can create loose skin that will often not shrink on its own. Many times the only way to alleviate this is through surgery to remove and tighten excess skin. Body contouring surgery can help reduce the excess skin and contour the abdomen, breasts, arms and thighs. Each problem area can be addressed with specific surgical options, including a tummy tuck, breast lift or breast reduction, upper arm lift and inner thigh lift.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Arm lift, or brachioplasty, can greatly improve the appearance of the upper arms especially if loose excess skin is present. This procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia at our surgical facility. The excess skin is usually removed from the arm through an incision placed on the inside of the arm and usually extends from the underarm to the elbow. Ultrasonic assisted Liposuction (Vaser) is usually performed on the area as part of the procedure. The underlying tissue is tightened and reshaped and the overlying skin is draped over the new contoured arm with the excess removed.

Following your surgery, your arms will be swollen and may be bruised. This will be minimized by the use of a compression garment that will cover the upper arms. You may experience some discomfort, which is easily managed with pain medication. You may return to work in 7-10 days, depending on your type of work. Light exercise may be resumed after about 3 weeks, and heavy lifting and vigorous exercise may be resumed after about 4- 6 weeks.

Inner Thigh Lift

An inner thigh lift can vastly improve the appearance of your inner thighs if excess or sagging skin is present. By removing the excess skin, the thigh is left with an improved shape and better overall contour.

This procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia at our surgical facility. For typical cases, the procedure will begin with liposuction to the inner thighs. The typical incision is placed in the inner crease of the groin. The exact length of the incision will depend on your particular body and the extent of sagging. Excess skin and fat is excised and the remaining is tightened and securely sutured.

Discomfort after this procedure is usually minimal and is easily managed with pain medication. You will have some swelling and bruising, which is minimized by the use of a compression garment that will extend to your knees. You may return to work in 7-10 days, depending on your type of work. Light exercise may be resumed after about 3 weeks, and vigorous exercise may be resumed after about 4- 6 weeks.
